Training Days and Workshops

The list below shows the forthcoming training days and workshops provided by Tracksys. We are also able to provide customised training to suit your exact needs. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your training requirements.

EthoVision Workshops

Friday, 27th June 2008 - Tracksys Offices, Nottingham

This workshop will provide a full overview of how to use the EthoVision 3.1 system. It will include several different scenarios and provide plenty of 'hands on' use of the equipment. The next date is the 27th June.

The day is designed for students, new users or those in need of a refresher. Trainers will be on hand to take attendees through the system in a series of generic and user-specific exercises. By the end of the day users should be able to;

  • Set-up an experiment (including independent variables)
  • Track animals in a variety of situations making use of EthoVisions options
  • Visualise data
  • Group and analyse data for a range of parameters

Course Summary

  • Design - how to set-up projects
  • Tracking - how to optimise data collection
  • Visualisation - examine and play your tracks
  • Analysis - get the most from your data
  • Export data for further analysis in SPSS or The Observer

Material provided

All attendees will work with a generic set of projects that they can take away with them on CD at the end of the day. User-specific projects made on the day will also be made available on CD.

Follow-up

Tracksys are committed to providing free technical support by phone or email and will contact all attendees after the training day to monitor their progress.

SIMI Motion Workshops

Friday, 27th June 2008 - Department of Psychology, University of Nottingham

This workshop will provide a full overview of how to use the SIMI Motion system. It will include several different scenarios and provide plenty of 'hands on' use of the equipment. The next date is the 27th June.

The day is designed for students, new users or those in need of a refresher. Trainers will be on hand to take attendees through the system in a series of generic and user-specific exercises. By the end of the day users should be able to;

  • Use SIMI Motion in a range of situations 
  • Capture and edit video 
  • Collect data using marker and markerless tracking
  • Display and output data using stick diagrams, tables and video
  • Make calculations and work with kinematic data

All attendees will work with a generic set of projects that they can take away with them on CD at the end of the day. User-specific projects made on the day will also be made available on CD.

Observer Workshops

Thursday, 26th June 2008 - Department of Psychology, University of Nottingham

This workshop will provide a full overview of how to use The Observer system. It will include several different scenarios and provide plenty of 'hands on' use of the equipment. The next date is the 26th June.

The day is designed for students, new users or those in need of a refresher. Trainers will be on hand to take attendees through the system in a series of generic and user-specific exercises. By the end of the day users should be able to;

  • Design behavioural coding schemes
  • Code live and from video sources
  • Display and Analyse their data
  • Export their work

Course Summary

  • Introduction- what The Observer is and how it can be used
  • Design- how to create projects
  • Coding- how to collect data quickly and effectively
  • Analysis- descriptive statistics, nesting, reliability analysis and display
  • Export- using Observer data in other packages e.g. Excel and SPSS
